The Saint John Dragon Boat Festival was an exciting fundraising event that combines the thrill of team dragon boat racing with a unique cultural festival. Local musicians and performers as well as traditional Chinese dancers took turns entertaining the crowds throughout the day while spectators watch their favorite teams compete on the 200 meter race course and soaked in some festival atmosphere.
The first Saint John Dragon Boat Festival was held on August 27, 2005 at the Renforth Wharf site off James Renforth Drive in Rothesay, NB. Thousands of spectators joined the 48 teams that day and started a tradition that has made the festival one of the most highly anticipated events of the summer. Over 1400 participants gathered on the shores of the Kennebecasis River for 14 years to continue the tradition of raising money for St. Joseph 's Hospital Foundation and had a blast doing it.
